I spent about 3 hours at Jerrabomberra Wetlands/Kellys Swamp
from late morning to early afternoon today. Despite the rain (which varied from
misty to heavy) and didn't let up much, it was a very worthwhile
visit.
At the rear of the wetlands, in the channel that borders the
far (southern?) side of Kellys Swamp, I watched a young Whistling Kite polish
off a rat for lunch (unknown rat species - it was black, although that was
probably due to being wet, with a long tail).
In the flowering eucalypts in the general vicinity of Fulica
Hide, there were 6 species of Honeyeater in small numbers. At least 3 Red
Wattlebird, 1 Eastern Spinebill, 4 New Holland, 2 Fuscous, 2 White-plumed and,
as can be seen from the attached picture, 1 Yellow-tufted.
