Hi !
Long time no see!, but anyway, this little note is
regarding what is the normal prey of the Grey Butcherbird.
This morning two birds flew over my shoulder narrow
missing my head in the proccess. These were a Blackbird closely pursued by the
G.B. The blackbird tried to escape by flying into a thick bush, but the G.B.
chased it under, over and through this bush .The blackbird was eventually
flushed out and made to escape again but was overtaken and forced into a fence
where it and the G.B. dropped out of sight. Less than 10 sec later
after this had happened , a Brown Goshawk alighted on the fence
causing the 2 other birds to depart forthwith. On looking where all this action
had taken place it was obvious by the feathers that the blackbird had been in
serious trouble, end of story . Given that the Blackbird was smaller than
the G.B. it wasn't by a great deal, it makes you wonder what this little tyro is
capable of.
cheers
