Thanks for your insights. I did not get a chance to
get in there to see it but then I have seen them several times before (but never
in such a potentially convenient location). I would point out that the species
has also occurred at the Botanic Gardens in Brisbane and Melbourne (and I
suspect also Sydney but I'm not sure about that). As for being disturbed we
won't know if that is responsible for its leaving. I also suggest it may still
be at ANBG in some unknown location. The Ninox Owls roost in trees
during the day and are all subject to harassment by many other species of birds,
so I would think they are well able to tolerate at least a small amount of being
bothered by people (that don't yell as loud as miners & cockatoos and can't
reach them).
