Still 11 with their parents on the dam at the end
of Kathner St Chapman just after 7 this morning. While I agree that 3 or
so looked a little bit smaller, it's difficult to tell whether the other 8 had
made the trek from the Narrabundah Hill dam for a 1 km or so through the horse
paddocks (possibly a bit too small). Shortly after there were 2
broods (6 and 4 resp and smaller than those above) with their parents at the
next dam along the SW Cooleman Ridge track, making it at least 4 in total which
have hatched in this area over the past few weeks. Certainly the most I've
ever seen here, and with the report of grey teal ducklings as well, most
probably the result of the good February rains (did we really get some
then?!).
No sign of the Pied Butcherbirds, if any one other
than Alastair and Martyn saw them last weekend I'd be very grateful if you
dropped me a line with some details.
There was, however, a late Noisy Friarbird calling
in the profusely flowering gum halfway down Kathner St.
