RIP Thornbill

This morning intrepid offspring turned up with a Red-rumped Thornbill in her golf bag. It was dead and appeared to have been so for several hours. It was wrapped in a freezer bag Sam carries in case specimens need to be brought home for discussion.
 
She'd removed it from a large, strong spider's web on the Belconnen golf course. Without any spider books to refer to, I said I doubted if Australian spiders preyed on small birds. We buried the late Thornbill in the compost bin.
