On my 6th attempt, black Black HEs (cf brown Black HEs) - 2 males and a
female at the dam as I arrived (simultaneously with Harvey), hawking
conspicuously and continuing to do for at least half an hour, making a
mockery of my previous futile hours.
Curiously there was an obvious silence on the site, compared with the
friarbird cacophony of previous visits, up until 3 days ago. It seems
that the Yellow Box nectar may be drying up; no Little Lorikeets either.
good birding all
Ian
[as we left, we met Alastair Smith and Michael Wright. As we chatted,
some 200m from the dam, AS looked up through his binocs and said
"There's a woodswallow. Oh, a Black HE just flew into the view. And
there's another one. They've both landed out in the open, in that tree
out in the paddock." I went home then.]
