HANZAB (Vol. 7, p. 434) gives the following comments on nest desertion by White-browed Woodswallows: "Nests deserted after severe windstorm (author). Liable to desert clutch if nest close to frequent disturbance (author). Birds with active nests will desert clutches when rest of colony leaves breeding area (authors)."
 
At least the 'writers-to-be' have now some background information/references.
