We’ve been given some directions to
the nest, and I know where it is. I’m pretty sure that this particular nest
was used by a group of choughs last year.
Looks like a nice lateral fork. Maybe the
choughs used a traditional frogmouth nest site without permission!
The nest site is only 60-70m away from the
horse gate. A tree near the gate was used for several years by a frogmouth
pair, but they have not been seen in that tree for a couple of years as far as
I know. I reckon it’s the same pair of frogmouths.
A question for those that have some
references handy. Do choughs re-use old nests or do they build a new one each
breeding attempt?
Cheers
Anthony

Frogmouth using a Chough nest
Very interesting that the Frogmouth is actually raising chicks in that
Chough nest.
I saw a Frogmouth in the exact same nest near Campbell Park
back on September 22.
At the time I just assumed it had found a comfy place to spend the day.
It was being bombed and harangued by several very agitated WW Choughs
(and a Pied Currawong).
So I'm not sure whether the nest was "disused" or "taken
over"
