Fyshwick Ducks

In turn, Marnix’s duck counts and ‘data note’s prompt me to question why the Blue-billed Duck is still ‘officially’ a “rare vagrant in the ACT”?  This species has been regular/resident (?possibly breeding) at the Fyshwick SP for quite a few years now – hardly a rare vagrant!

Frank's email on duck numbers at Fyshwick has prompted me to share the following information from my monthly waterbird counts at Fyshwick SP.

Here are some sample species:

Species/Date                28/2        12/3        12/4        7/5        7/6        4/7        2/8        Data Note

A Shoveler                42        53        93        170+        102        36        2        A marked peak in May
Pink-eared Duck        39        15        62        54        112        92        135        An almost steady rise since Feb
Hardhead                34        59        97        55        31        28        37        Fairly stable throughout with peak in Autumn
Freckled Duck                0        0        1        0        3        1        0        Winter visitor
Blue-billed Duck        6        7        12-15        6        6        4        8        Resident

These numbers are from my monthly waterbird counts. My intention is to complete a full year of counts.

Cheers
Marnix

[canberrabirds] Rose Robin & Jerra ducks

  Classification

Not a great photo, but I saw this male Rose Robin in ANBG on Sunday, 30
July, up at the top end of the gardens, near the gate through to Black
Mountain and Telstra Tower. Unfortunately, still no Pink Robin, or Scarlet
or Crescent Honeyeaters for that matter!

On a visit to the FSP on Saturday, 29 July, I counted 122 Pink-eared Ducks,
so numbers of this species appear to be increasing.  Most others were down
though - no more than 60 Hardhead, 20-30 Shoveler, less than 20 Grey Teal,
no Chestnut Teal, 6 Blue-bills (4 male), no Freckles.
1 pale morph Little Eagle and a Brown Goshawk.

Frank
