Well done Marnix,
I like your stated intention. Beyond that, a large
number of COGites have been collecting waterbird data from there for 30+ years.
Which is a really good thing as well as enjoying one of the easiest
waterbird watching spots in inland SE Australia. There must be a vast number of
notebook records available. It has never been compiled though. There have been
many ad hoc publications about it in CBN & Gang gang, and bits and pieces
have appeared in the ABR over the years. I wonder if there are any trends
(monthly abundance and long term trends and details on breeding) on any of these
species. Does anyone know? I wish someone would collect all those data, build a
database, spend many years full-time work analysing it all and write it up
and pay all the production costs and self-publish a report about the birds
of the Jerrabomberra Wetlands. I promise I would buy at least one copy. They
might even make a couple of dollars on each book sold and thereby achieve
some cost recovery of expenses incurred, as well as achieving some publicity for
the impressive stable of COG related books and that would be just
great.
