At Jarramlee Pond on May 26th/27th six cygnets were born
and 3 days later (as last year) the family walked the 400 or so metres to Fassifern Pond.

For 20 days all went well.
Tuesday night (maybe monday, i keep notes but get confused when excited)
one of the adults (i think the female) disappeared.

Since then the other adult has led the young back and forth
between the two ponds presumably in search of its mate.
On these journeys it has managed to lose two young.

If i attempt to feed them anything sensible: water cress, lettuce, sultanas even,
the adult and hence the young ignore the  food.
If i give them bread the adult will trample all over the young
with little concern for their safety and gobble it down.

Question : is there something sensible i can feed them
                that they will eat ?

Visitors to Pond 2 (Fassifern) in recent days include :
seven grey teal, a pair of Australian shovellers (male in breeding plumage) and a black fronted plover.
