Alastair (et al),
Details of the COG grid system are given in the ABR each year
(see Canberra bird Notes 30(1); p 1 for description and p 61 for map).
If brief, grids are of 2.5 minutes of both lat and long, between
34:45:00 and 36:00:00 S (1-30) and 148:40:00 and 149:45:00 E (A-Z).
The datum used can be either AGD(84/66) or WGS84/GDA, (preferably the
latter to be more with the times) but it is important to specify when
submitting records which datum was used.
There is a large (1:100,000) map of the COG area, with grids
marked clearly on it, available at monthly meetings for members to
consult.
Harvey
Can someone provide me with details of the A-Z / 1-30 grid square system overlaid over the COG area of interest? I have a graphic image of the Canberra region with the grid drawn on it, but I would like to translate this to a map for the forthcoming 'blitz'. For instance, is the grid based on UTM or lat / long, how large are the grid squares and where is the datum? I have had a look on the website but cannot find any relevant info.
