Thanks for advice, Anthony & Philip. I put the finer (5 cm) wire netting over the area, and the parents have been quite unpeturbed. A pair of wattlebirds have been chasing the currawong from tree to tree, so it might have ceased being interested for the time being. . .
Re some earlier postings: we have six king parrots enjoying winter honeysuckle buds & flowers at the moment. A pair of gang gangs passed though this morning - seems they have  not been as abundant as usual. 
I have not been in my office a lot over recent weeks, but last sighting of pardalotes interacting with 'rival' in my window was in late july - so they were at it for more than six months (both male & female, female more aggressive).
