Hi all
We have white-browed scrub wrens feeding noisy young a few metres from our
back door - same place as they (or another pair?) nested about three or four
years ago. Currawongs do not yet seem to be on their trail - but luckily
this year are not (yet) building a nest in our garden (but are close by).
By the way, after saying earlier in the year that the kookaburras that come
often to our garden do not appear to bother the fish, I was standing beside
the pond (see OGS book, p. 51), under the eaves, when we were getting the
first good downpour a few months ago, and a kookaburra that had been looking
rather bedraggled on a near low branch for some time suddenly swooped and
look the largest, brightest goldfish from right beside me. Good thing the
fish have been breeding well . . .
cheers
Barbara Preston
PS. The garden is in the open garden scheme, October 8-9 (details on p. 50
in OGS book now at newsagents, ABC shop etc). I have tried to make it
bird-friendly, so there are lots of grevilleas, correas, etc etc, and I'm
trying to develop protected thick bushy areas that are good for nesting etc.
It still has a lot of growing to do . . . but may be of interest to some of
you. Surplus funds will go to the friendship schools program of Canberra
Friends of Dili (that is, to support schools and the staff co-ordinating the
program in Dili, East Timor).
