As a change from the beautiful Yellow-tufted Honeyeater (and hopefully Marnix has had the last word!), there were at least 80 DWS in the paddock to the west of the Kelly Swamp carpark yesterday afternoon – some were on the ground, others were perched on dead thickets or the fence, and most were on the powerlines.

KS itself was very quiet – no Freckled Ducks.  The water level is very high and so there aren’t so many perching spots at the moment.

Last Sunday beside a pond at Giralang there was a Great Egret with a particularly strong green facial streak – probably the best view I have ever seen.  The pond is just off William Slim Drive just north of the intersection with Baldwin Cres.   Are Great Egrets usually here in winter?
