I also heard a yellow tailed black in east hawker last
night. Interestingly a blackbird next door has become a very good
mimic of a yellow tailed black call. But this time I was definite. YTBC are
extremely uncommon in Hawker but I have seen them at kellys swamp, aranda, , and
Lake BG and curtin over spring and summer usually in 2 or
3s.
The rainbow lorikeets have been flying over, in
Hawker, each evening and I am 80% sure there is one dependent young but
havent actually seen it being fed yet.
I think the Wedgies have a nest just west of bibaringa,
because whenever I have driven to brindies on coming home i have seen them
gliding over there, just being able to see from Uriarra crossing, but also have
seen them twice over coppins crossing area and twice further East over William
hovell, near Mt Painter. All these observations were spring and
summer and each time there have been pairs but driving home from work last week
I thought I saw three.

I think it is difficult to draw such a conclusion from
the information offered so far.
For my part, I have seen or heard small numbers, up to 5,
throughout recent months. Typically they are still around, or commuting
between, mature pines, at places as widespread as the Cuppacumbalong
homestead, Fyshwick, and the assembly point for last week's LBG bike
ride. 2 weeks ago I found 3 in the Black Wattles in a nearby
reserve, presumably seeking grubs. I would be surprised if they
were ever completely absent from Kowen Forest, but David and Kathy or other
sentinels on our eastern frontiers might be able to
say.
