A bit out of the area, but a nice tale for Christmas.  This version from Google - there is a whole website about the episode but it is rather jumbled.

Architects design new home for NY hawks

Two of the world's best-known birds will be home for the holidays after all.

The famous birds are red-tailed hawks, Pale Male and Lola, who have nested on an exclusive New York apartment building for almost two decades.

Earlier this month management ordered that the structure, which supports their nest, to be removed because of the droppings and pigeon remains, which constantly decorated the front of their stylish Fifth Avenue building.

The move caused days of street demonstrations and intense media interest with letters of protest coming from bird-lovers from Australia, Europe and the Middle East.

Now, in a peace deal brokered by the National Audubon Society, an architect-designed structure to support the hawk's nest and catch the bits of dead pigeon is being installed.

The hawks have continued to circle the building since their nest was destroyed and supporters say this is a fairy tale ending.
