Well written Andrew.  On the topic of your Ragdoll - I had a cat, until I
discovered Aboriginal relatives staying with us so liked the cat that they
wanted to take kittens back to their outstations as pets.  That cat killed
only one bird that I know of -but it was a Forest Kingfisher, an uncommon
sight in the middle of Darwin.

After the cat died I decided never to have another.
