Flock Bronzewing
Derby, Western Australia
Anyone interested in seeing Flock Bronzewing, now is a good time to head towards Derby. A flock of about a 100 have been hanging around about 120km southeast of Derby (just south of the Great Northern Hwy). On the 17th Jeff Turpin and I saw a large flock of over 170 birds and there are probably a lot more in the local area. The Fitzroy River black-soil floodplain at Camballin would probably also be a great place look for Flock Bronzewing at the moment. Lots of Black-breasted Buzzards (6 seen along 20km), Bustards and Australian Pratincoles are also in the area. Richard King

At the Nillbubbaca 24 hr rest area/ stop off the Great northern highway (about 120 kms east of Broome towards Derby; about 60 km west of Willare) we had Red-browed Pardalote, Hooded Robin, Horsfields Bronze-cuckoo and Black-chinned Honeyeater. I nice rest break indeed!

The bird was pure white everywhere except on back and wings, which were "cuckoo-shrike" grey.
