Following Peter Shute's earlier contribution to this thread, I reviewed my
use of Digest mode. I had previously taken the simplistic view that a
single daily message would take up less of my time as well as my inbox. I
had encountered the awkwardness of replying to posts, and had taken care to
ensure that the subject line was the same (and not to include the whole
digest in my reply!) but I hadn't appreciated the technical issue of replies
to individual posts being correctly threaded. There have also been
instances in the past when it didn't seem worth replying to a post a day
after the event and following other contributions.

After a day or two of receiving all messages, I would largely endorse
Peter's post. It is, in fact, easier to ignore threads in which I don't
have an interest if I don't have to scroll through the content. In gmail at
least there is the further significant bonus that posts within a single
thread are presented to me as a single "conversation": I can open and view
all the relevant posts in one go.

I wouldn't go so far as to suggest that the Digest option is removed, but I
would suggest that its users might (like me) be surprised by the benefits of
receiving all posts instead.
