Dear Liz,

I'm an Aussie descended from people who came here in the 1800s (unfortunately no convicts).
I'm definitely not a knowledgable birder.

I think this whole correspondence has been meant to be fun.

And it has been.

Tony Russell, to my eyes, is definitely a 'Pom'! Sorry Tones!
Liz, if you've met Tony, you'd have no doubt of his origins!
Not sure if that means he's a feral, a vagrant, or a pest ...

But there's no doubt that he is an incredibly knowledgable and helpful birder when it comes to Aussie birds. I have often, in the bush, benefited from Tony's amazing knowledge and helpfulness.

An anecdote.
I always remember Tones tail-gating me down a hill to Brookfield NP in SA.
This elderly lady did the obvious - stood on the brakes and slowly proceeded until we reached the flat when he was able to zoom past!
But he's a kind guy.
I remember that he was asking people - with concern - whether anyone had seen me and if I'd arrived.
I know this only too well as I was standing behind him at the time!
No doubt Tony would deny that!

Liz, Please don't get upset.
It really is meant to be humour!

And Tony is a great birder albeit that he tends to tease.

All the very best,

Judy
