There is a bird hide at Edithvale Wetlands which is opened on weekends by volunteers when the water is there. But it does require a lot of volunteer effort to organise 8 volunteers per weekend to fill 4 x 2-hour slots, even in the heart of deepest darkest suburbia. The hide is locked up and secured when not in use as it too has been burgled or vandalised in the past.

The hide is due to reopen next month as there is a bit of stormwater coming into the wetlands, so stay tuned to hear if the painted snipe returns...
