I would have thought non birders would like to see birds that do something, 
e.g. come down to be fed, parade, etc, and are big enough to be seen without 
binoculars.

I sometimes wonder how many more people would become birders if a pair of 
binoculars found their way into their hands when an interesting but normally 
unnoticed bird was around.
