Hi all,

We saw one chasing small bats at dusk at Bowra (south-west Queensland) a few
weekends ago. It eventually caught one and proceeded to eat it on a branch in
front of us.

The report from our very successful trip is available at:

with best wishes,

HI Richard

I've 5 records of Hobby hunting at dusk (including one in June) down here in
SE Melbourne. I suspect they are after birds settling into roosts (eg.
sparrows in shopping centres).

But the closest I've ever been to one was when I was on a cliff top at dawn
and it hurtled past about 1 metre off the ground and 2 m from me in very low
light (and then rose against the sky so I could i/d it).
