Bowra

A number of organisations have been approached regards taking an
interest in purchasing Bowra.

i won't name the organisations but all of them do purchase properties for conservation although one has stopped doing this.

None were really interested although a couple did some study of the
property.

All needed the purchase price plus about a similar amount for the
first few years restoration, management etc.

It appears that for the same amount of money much larger properties
with a far greater area of remnant vegetation and with a greater
range of wildlife can be purchased.

Although Bowra has an extensive bird list it has been grazed, it
doesn't have the range of vertibrates, reptiles or small mammals that attracts these organisations.

BA is involved in research and recovery plans and don't consider
owning property part of their core business.

A number of people in Qld have been looking to find a purchaser for
Bowra but with out any luck.

if anyone has any way of finding a buyer who will not clear fell most of the property it would be wonderful news.

Under current legislation in Queensland muchof Bowra can be cleared
as much of it is not original vegetation but regrowth even though
some regrowth may be fifty years or more old.

Hi Allan

Sorry but I have no idea if you or anyone is doing anything about
trying to buy Bowra.

Could it fit in (with some co-funding perhaps) with Peter Garrett's budget committment to 200 million to extend the national reserve
system?
