You write about the Tidbinbilla's (there is no such place) but I wonder if you
mean Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve near Canberra. You should fairly easily be able
to find Flame Robin, Satin Flycatcher and Gang-gang Cockatoo there. Spotted
Quail-thrush and Yellow Thornbill are a little less likely. Yellow Thornbill
certainly occur throughout parts of Canberra but they are the least common of
the 5 local thornbill species and their habitat choice is narrower than others.
Although I could find them on most days if I really tried. There is one
Powerful Owl easily visible most days at the Aust. National Botanic Gardens in
Canberra. Has been here since May or June. I don't know if it is "a better
bird". This bird is easily approachable and perches about 2 metres above the
main path about 100 metres from the entrance and kiosk. This is about 3 km from
the city centre.
