Paradise Parrots must have been nomadic as Forshaw suggests in his
Australian Parrots 3rd revised edition, as John Gilbert did not
encounter the species as he crossed the Severn, Macintyre and Dumaresq
Rivers and Frazers Creek in 1844. It was not until he reached Yandilla
on the Darling Downs that he discovered them. Paradise Parrots were
recorded in those northern NSW river areas in the late 19th and early
20th century so they may have moved temporarily into those areas during
extreme drought conditions.
It is interesting that Gould's painting of this species is of two males.
Gilbert collected a male at Yandilla but I am not sure where his second
collection was made but that must have also been a male.
