For some reason, Alan's e-mail reminded me of a story that I will share
with you. It doesn't link with Grey Fantails in any way.

A few years back, we had a very exciting arrival in Newcastle of a
Black-backed Wagtail. Probably quite a few of you came here to see it.
We also organised some local publicity and so there was a story about
the bird that made the local TV and newspapers. What then happened was
we had lots of phone calls from the public that they too had seen a
Black-backed Wagtail - but they were reporting that it was in their yard
or some such similar location!

In case you are wondering, the Willie Wagtail has a black back!

Grant's comment about Grey Fantails reminded me of an incident from
Saturday. I pointed out one of our black and white, mountain form Grey
Fantails. When the client said he had not seen one before I thought he
meant
this form. despite this being his second trip to Aus., having seen 240
species on the previous trip and up to about 170 on this one he had
missed
the Grey Fantails. Does Grant have the same problem or its antithesis?
Alan
