The reason for capitalization of bird names is obvious in America at least,
a bird watcher can report that they saw a Solitary Vireo (the species), or a
solitary (just one) vireo.

But with the increasing trend towards the non-capitalisation of bird names
(the RSPB in the UK adopts this approach) you can no longer tell the
difference.
