Hey Evan,
Don't sell our beautiful area short! The lower mountains might be
just a "quaint chain of hills", but here in the upper Blue Mountains
the scenery is spectacular by anyone's standards, although
"mountains" is perhaps a misnomer. As I'm sure you know, it's more a
huge plateau up to 1100 metres high dissected by deep valleys and
canyons. My overseas visitors always seem to be impressed and very
surprised by the landscape, saying they never thought anything like
this existed in Australia.
To put this into a bird context, the variety of altitudes, aspects
and soil types mean that there is a wide range of habitat types in
close proximity, from heathland to eucalyptus woodland to temperate
rainforest. There will be more about all this on my website soon.
