On the morning of the 5th July, I found the Grey-headed Lapwing in the area
opposite the silos at 7.12 am. After about 5 minutes it flew to the small
patch of water near the track on the right hand side of the area and after
another 5 minutes or so disappeared somewhere around the chain-mesh fence in
the higher vegetation. After a very tasty egg and bacon roll from the servo
(thoroughly recommended!) I headed back to the area to find several people
including Andrew Stafford watching the bird from the track. It was standing
amongst the taller vegetation and occasionally sitting on the ground. It
later flew out into the open ground near the fenceline and was actively
feeding when I left to return to Melbourne at 11.25 am. A most
accommodating and elegant bird.
