Hi Tom,
        This also brought back great memories of my visits to Heron Is in '77 & 
'78
as a diver. The Rails were always in the dining room even then. I must have
known that 15 years later I would become a birder because I took photos of
the Rails, Noddys, Shearwaters & both grey and white phase Reef
Herons/Egrets.
        I wonder if they will rename the island "Egret Is"?

My recollection from a brief stay at the resort on Heron Island in 1993 was
that we spent a reasonable amount of effort every meal time keeping several
Buff Banded Rails out of the butter and other food stuffs.  They wandered
around the resort dining room as they were the ones in charge.
