Hi Simon
We had a tamish BB
Rail on an outing once at Featherdale Wildlife Park in
Doonside. I am pretty sure it was a wild one with no
leg bands. These Rails can certainly become tame as other’s have also
experienced

Subject: [BIRDING-AUS] who needs
patience...
Well I simply had to write this
note, although this may not be of such a surprise to regular visitors to
Sydney's botanical gardens..... How many times have we all waited patiently,
sometimes for what seemed an eternity, on the edge of vast wetlands, to
see that rail or crake - and normally in the very early hours of the morning
(Pitt Town lagoon comes to mind).
Earlier this evening I attended a
function run by the NSW Government at Government House which is basically
inside the botanical gardens. There would have been a few hundred people
present in the grounds. Anyway whilst having cocktails with colleagues a Buff-Banded
Rail rushed between our feet and across the path....shortly after it strolled
back into our conversation and started pecking at my shoes. It then proceeded
to casually walk among the guests seemingly completely oblivious to the crowd!
There you go........so much for
those cryptic moments trying to pick out rails among the reeds and weeds!
