If you read further down Martin’s
message you will see they are referring to Streptopelia
decaocto which was the one we used to refer to as the ‘Eastern Collared
Dove’ when I lived in England.
This species had never been seen in the UK prior to the
1950s, by 1964 there were 3000 pairs, by 1972 between 30,000-40,000 pairs. They
have now exploded as far as the Faroes and Iceland. It has been reported a
pair may breed up to 6 times per year.
Personal opinion is that is not really one of the
species we really require in Australia,
we have enough Spotted Turtledoves around here already, and these are a very
similar species.
