Perhaps it is a matter of timing. I tripped over half a dozen other
birding parties last time I looked for the little bittern at Sherwood
Arboretum. Similarly, I ran into several other parties looking at the
painted snipe at the Bill Gunn Dam. I even met some distant NZ
relatives for the first time when I came across them birding at Lake
Eacham.
I also ran into the Hunter Valley birdwatching society at the Borah Ck
reserve near Barraba at Easter [more cars and camping equipment than you
could poke a frozen night parrot at]. It was nice running into Phil
[who I met on an atlassing expedition on Cape York a while ago], and
trying the rebadged [regent honeyeater] 1999 de Bortoli durif - $10.90
in the Commercial Hotel. For the price, I was pleasantly surprised by
its quality [as good as some wines that cost twice as much].
