Hi All.
Regarding Brian Everington's mail on --Koels and
Parenting, I had a similar experience a long time ago which I have resurrected
from my notes. It happened on the 4-1-1987 while I was cooking a back yard
barbercue for my family.
A large commotion drew my attention to several
birds in a large smooth barked eucalypt next door, There were two young Koels
being fed by Red Wattlebirds, I am not aware of what they were being fed on.The
important point however was that the whole process was being apparently
supervised by a pair of adult Koels who were otherwise not participating in the
process. My impression was that the young were theirs, and they
were making sure the Wattlebirds were doing their job
properly.
I suspect that I have read articles in "Australian
Birds" or other periodicals along these lines.
