Hello Kirri,

I have taken the SeaStar trip twice, last time two weeks ago. Found them very accomodating to birders and although snorkelers and divers are the main passengers there is a lot of space for birds too. Also have a talk and glass bottom boat trip available. If tides are right they will take the birders for a trip around the cay. Well worth a pleasant day at sea!

Regards,
Anne

Hi
I did the standard tourist cruise five years ago with my wife and one year old. It was full of snorkellers and not set up for birding. That said - I saw a few lifers up close. Lesser created terns, brown boobies amongst others.

It is a spectacular spot. Someone more knowledgeable may have a better birding option but if you can’t find one then definitely give it a go.  Probably the easiest way to see sea birds near cairns. Ebird has a lot of lists to show what’s been there recently.

Make sure you pay attention as you approach and leave the cay. I saw a bridled tern on the way back in

Hi there...
Hoping to go to Michelmaus Cay off Cairns in the next week or two if possible...
- Just wondering is it worth it?
- Are there any good seabirds on the sand spit? Is it the right time of year?
- What’s the best way to get there/cheapest tour option as we don’t have our own boat??

Thanks in advance
Kirri 😊
