Greetings Kirri,
The best chance of seeing the Red-footed Booby is to take the first boat
run by Sea Star. It does not spend long at the island though and goes to
another reef. The larger Ocean Spirit spends more time there and has
greater flexibility to take a run around the island in a tender. Make
sure you go when it is high tide in the middle of the day as otherwise
they cannot get around the island because of the reef flat. If you can
spot some other birders on the boat, approach them about asking the crew
as a group for a lunch time run around the island. Also worth keeping an
eye out on the buoys and markers as you go through Lugger Pass as you
may see pelagic species there. This is soon after the closest pass to
Green Island.
Regards,
Alan

Hi there...
Hoping to go to Michelmaus Cay off Cairns in the next week or two if possible...
- Just wondering is it worth it?
- Are there any good seabirds on the sand spit? Is it the right time of year?
- What’s the best way to get there/cheapest tour option as we don’t have our
own boat??
Thanks in advance
Kirri 😊
