Hi all
an update, as I went to Capertee yesterday (Sun 25 Sept) – it has had rain and
there is water moving in the waterways – I’ve never seen Coco Creek looking
like a real creek before. I had rained overnight and a bit on the morning and
the dirt roads were a bit slippery and mushy but by 3pm when it had been drying
out for a couple of hours they were easily passable. The car needs a wash
though!
There is some finishing blossom at Site#2 on the birding routes brochure that
held lots of honeyeaters – 1 Fuscous, a party of White-napeds, about 10
Scarlets, lots of White-plumed, Yellow-faced, Noisy Friarbirds, Red Wattlebirds
– Little Lorikeets
Also some finishing blossom at Glen Alice, where there was a single
Spiny-cheeked Honeyeater in with the larger honeyeaters. Also there around the
church/hall were White-browed (4) and Grey-crowned Babblers; nesting Hooded
Robins, 3 Brown Treecreepers and a party of 25+ Diamond Firetails. Over Nile
Creek a Hobby was defending its territory against a Peregrine
At the junction of Glen Alice and Glen Davis Rds was a small party of
Plum-headed Finches – 4 adults and 2 immatures. Also here were Peacfeul Doves,
Zebra & Double-barred Finch, a single Rufous Songlark, Kestrel and
Black-shouldered Kites.
Pallid Cuckoos were calling throughout the valley, and I finally saw one near
the Genowlan Bridge turn off. Jacky Winters and Dusky Woodswallows were highly
visible at pretty much every site I stopped.
No sign of any White-backed Swallows or Regents (although for the latter, I did
not venture up the road to the gates of the NP).

this is still OK for a visit? (Presumably too far east/too far upstream?)

Here is an update. It is getting bad, when they start evacuating parts of
Forbes. Best thing anyone who is thinking of going into that area, think
again. I know the area well, and I wouldnt go anywhere around, even with a
4WD. If you really have to go, ring the NRMA, Lachlan, Condo and Lake
Cargelligo Shires and the SES.
