Greek PM defies EU's imposition of technocratic dictatorship

As the 5 June deadline for debt payments to the IMF loomscovered in this week's CEC Report—Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has penned a fiery and defiant opinion column in French journal Le Monde, slamming the EU for "absurd demands" that were bringing about "a complete abolition of democracy in Europe".

Tsipras's defiance of the EU technocrats is a further signal that Greece will default on its IMF payment on Friday. The big unknown, is whether this default will trigger a meltdown of the euro. The bull-headed Eurocrats who are intent on forcing Greece to submit to their austerity regime are assuming that if their brinkmanship forces Greece out of the eurozone, the euro will survive; less blinkered observers fear that may be a miscalculation, and that in fact a Greek exitGrexitcould trigger an unravelling of many speculative positions tied in to the euro that will spark panic. Perhaps the last time such a fateful decision was tossed up was when US bank regulators decided to let Lehman Brothers collapse in September 2008, unaware of the bottomless financial abyss that would immediately open up in the global derivatives bubble. Put simply, by not making reasonable concessions to Greece, the Eurocrats are rolling the dice on astoundingly high stakes.

Join the campaign to save Community TV, and the CEC Report on Community TV

Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull, who owes his career to commercial TV network Channel 9, is unilaterally forcing community television off the air. One of the biggest corporate/political scandals in Australian history is how the Commonwealth government gifted most of the new digital bandwidth to the existing TV networks, for token sums of money, for the networks to use for inane shopping channels, re-runs of old shows, and generally the dregs of an already degenerated TV broadcasting culture. Yet Community TV, which provides a real local service, including the opportunity for motivated groups to broadcast important content that the major networks won't, and a training ground for young people to learn technical skills associated with production and broadcasting, is having the one digital channel allotted to it in the capital cities taken away. For what? Most likely so Turnbull can sell digital bandwidth to mobile phone providers.

The CEC Report is now broadcast on digital channel 44 in Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and, finally, Sydney. It is a news service that both major political parties, Turnbull's Libs and the ALP, despise, as it allows ordinary citizens to stumble across the CEC's information and ideas that they wouldn't get any other way, due to the ongoing blackout of the CEC by the major news media. If Turnbull succeeds, all Community TV content, including the CEC Report, will be confined to the internet.

Following are links to the campaign that Community TV organisers are running to save the service from Turnbull. If you support the principle of truly independent media, support their campaign:
