Location: On our Rockleigh property
Peaceful Dove (Geopelia placida) (1) A silent peaceful dove in the creek bed
trees, spotted by sheer luck. Species number 80 for Crooked Tree ! This is the
first new species sighted since January this year.
Rainbow Bee-eater (Merops ornatus) (2) The bee-eaters are still around, but so
far no young seen. The nesting hole in the sandy bank looks as if it is being
used.
A brown falcon was hanging around all day. At one stage it perched in the top
of a dead tree, where a Willie wagtail told it in no uncertain terms to go
away. It took no notice, even when the Willie bounced on its head.

Date: Tuesday, December 30, 2014
Location: Tolderol Wetlands
Glossy Ibis (Plegadis falcinellus) (58) Feeding in first 2 ponds
Wood Sandpiper (Tringa glareola) (5)
Marsh Sandpiper (Tringa stagnatilis) (6)
Tolderol is well worth a visit early in day when birds are feeding. All three
Ibis present but 58 Glossy Ibis was bird of the day. Sandpipers (above) feeding
together with Sharp-tailed Sandpipers, Red-necked Stints. Hundreds of
Black-winged Stilts spread over the area. At last 600 Pied Cormorants flew
over. Lovely close-ups of White-fronted Chats & Golden Headed Cisticola. An
interesting diversion which prevented accessing the lake area was a CFS Tanker
that had tipped sideways into the 3rd pond! (wheels in the air) Many men & utes
and then heavy equipment arrived to retrieve the truck. There was a "rubbish"
fire at the end of the first track area being monitored.
Congratulations to the local NRM and all others who have managed to get water
back in the ponds, great for he birds and the birders.

Location: Goolwa Channel Nr Murray Mouth
Terek Sandpiper (Xenus cinereus) (1) Single bird on mudflats with other waders.
Greater Sand Plover (Charadrius leschenaultii) (1) Single bird on mudflats ,
very lively and wary.
Also present on mudflats between channel and dunes; Bar tailed Godwit 23,
Pacific Golden Plover 50, Red Knot 15, and Curlew Sandpiper estimate at least
300 spread right across whole area, many Red necked Stint but only about 30
Sharpies. All sightings from kayak in small channels between mudflats.
