Red-whiskered Bulbul Bundoora
For those interested in ticking plastics Bulbul still showing well this
morning (around 8.30 am) in Bryson Crtt and Carbeen Dve. All sightings
appear to be within 100 m of this location but bird not always present.
Was heard upon arrival and allowed very close approach which possibly
does not support the 'wild-bird theory'.

Fri 15 Aug Olive-backed Oriole Banyule Flats Reserve
One calling in morning from red gums in billabong. 2 Yellow-faced

Red-kneed Dotterel Yarrawonga
88 birds seen in a shallow flooded paddock by Hicks Road. Not a rare
species locally but the high count and timing (usually a late spring
and summer bird around here) is unusual.
Michael Ramsey
Swift Parrot Gilpin Park Brunswick
Swifties still there this morning as previously reported. I saw up to
four, probably juveniles flittering from tree to tree not far from
Pearson Street. Thanks to everyone who has been putting these sitings
on Birdline.

An Indian Ringneck was observed perched next to some Spotted Doves on a

Wed 13 Aug Brown Cuckoo-dove Croajinolong National Park approx
-37.4580, 149.8380
An unmistakable large brown pigeon (female). Observed for about 10
minutes, sitting half way up a gum tree about 300 M south from the
start of Lakeview track, Croajinolong NP (north of Mallacoota inlet,
access via Maxwell's Rd)
Angus Hartshorn
Regent Honeyeater Magenta Rd, Chiltern-Mt Pilot NP
It seems the unbanded male from Teal Track a few months ago has moved.
Matt found the bird today, still making abbreviated Red Wattlebird
mimicry, adjacent to Magenta Rd about 300m west of the intersection
with Greenhill Rd (i.e. back towards Magenta Mine).

Tue 12 Aug Slender-billed Prion Point Roadknight.
SBP found beachcast around noon today. Longish bill, culminicorn gap of
>5mm between nostril and bill hook, straight bill sides and small black
tail tip suggested this sp.

Thu 7 Aug Sooty Albatross Pt Lonsdale lighthouse offshore
Uniformly dark, graceful and shapely albatross. ~80% wingspan of a Shy
Albatross. Long narrow wings, occasionally hump-backed like a Shy
Albatross, wedge shaped tail; consistently, with one exception when it
rose quite high, it was gliding low, slowly and gracefully over the
water. Occasional graceful shallow wing-beats. Uniformly dark sooty
brown with a dark bill with no distinguishing features or paler
contrasts.
