Published sightings for the week ending 5 Jan 2014.

Sat 4 Jan       Spotted Whistling-Duck Awonga Waste Treatment Plant, Weipa, 
Queensland
11 birds present with assorted other ducks. Absent for much of dry season.

Fri 3 Jan       Barn Swallow Somerset Drive, North Mossman, Queensland
2 Immature birds with messy black chest band and short tail streamers. Good 
views with telescope on wires alongside road. What seemed the smaller of the 
two repeatedly flew up to harass the larger which merely gaped at the other 
till it re-settled alongside.

One immature associating with Fairy and Tree Martins on wires, tree over shed 
and even landing on ground with Fairy Martins.

Sat 28 Dec      Adele Penguin Bauer Bay, Macquarie Island
Second hand report of an Adele Penguin ashore on Bauer Bay (west coast) 
Macquarie Island observed by expedition staff on 28 December 2013 (give or take 
a day). The third or fourth record for Macquarie Island (if confirmed).

        Letter-winged Kite Port Wakefield, South Australia
6 adults in the same tree late afternoon. This means there are 7 birds and 
counting.
