Sat 4 Jan Fork-tailed Swift Griffin
Several hundred over north at great height late evening. Birds were so high
they could not be seen with naked eye, only through bins/scope. Birds only
picked up at first when I checked a high flying raptor through bins and saw a
large flock of high flying swifts behind it. A few large flocks went through as
the southeasterly cool change arrived this evening. Would speculate that some
of the 4,000 birds seen in northern NSW this am may have been involved,
reorientating after arriving in coastal strip on the hot winds that bought the
heatwave conditions to the Brisbane area today.

        Oriental Cuckoo Anstead Bushland Reserve
Two today. One to the west of the power lines near the river, and a second, a
hepatic female, near the top of the sealed road leading from the smaller car
park. All went quiet after 7.30am.

Pale-vented Bush-hen, Spotless Crake Dowse Lagoon, Sandgate
Prolonged views of an adult Bush-hen just to the right of the bird hide. Bird

breeding plumage. This seems to be first record on eremaea for this site. Also
a pair of Spotless Crakes showing well to the left of the western viewing
platform.
