Asian Dowitcher
Osprey House Environmental Centre
Asian Dowitcher on North Pine River at low tide this am, several hundred metres upstream of Osprey House on river bend. Same place as a (or the same?) bird in June. Viewing would be extremely distant from Osprey House. Best viewed from lay-by on sharp bend of Dohles Rocks Road by mangroves, back towards the Bruce Highway from Osprey House. Walk through mangroves to view mudflats - waders/wellies essential here.

Lewin's Rail, Rufous-tailed Bush-hen, Barred Cuckooshrike
Gold Creek Reservoir
We spent the morning with Todd Burrows just at the creek near the metal gate and at the fig tree patch near the toilet block. We did not check the reservoir - hence the lack of waterbirds on the list. In addition to the birds listed below, there was a Red-bellied Black Snake at the creek. Todd stayed longer and may have additional sightings. Lewin's Rail (2) and Rufous-tailed Bush-hen (2) in the creek near the metal gate. Barred Cuckooshrike (1) behind the toilet block.

Lewin's Rail
Fig Tree Pocket (near the 17 mile rocks)
Two Lewin's Rails calling, early morning, 100m apart on 50m-wide terrace beside Brisbane River, in dense continuous cover of para grass, common reed, and castor oil shrubs. Buff-banded Rails heard and seen elsewhere along the same 400 m of river edge. A crake, possibly Spotless, calling here on the previous evening in reeds with grass and sedge.

These three species of rail were calling, each in separate areas of dense weedy cover along tidally influenced reaches of Moggill Creek, in the early morning. A Lewin's Rail was later seen at the water's edge in the last hour of daylight and brief videos were recorded.
