Unusual use for a tree guard!

I'm wondering if the bird has just mistaken the plastic tree guard for a hollow 
stump. Do they normally roost in places like that - i.e. a stump about a foot 
high with a vertical hollow?

I wonder what it thought about the amount of light that was getting in through 
the sides.
