Latham's Snipe (Gallinago hardwickii) (2) Flushed from grassy flat near water's
edge in far SW of Park
Buff-banded Rail (Gallirallus philippensis) (1) Flushed from one of the many
meandering channels though grassy Red Gum woodland

Date: Monday, October 21, 2013
Location: Parnka Point, Coorong.
Banded Stilt (Cladorhynchus leucocephalus) (40) The Stilts were roosting and
feeding on the large swamp across the road from the entrance road to Parnka
Point.
None carried bands or flags, but most appeared to be young birds with brownish
plumage, and a small number with faint chest bands.

Location: Granite Island Victor Harbor
Short-tailed Shearwater (Puffinus tenuirostris) (8) Resting on water close to
the Jetty.
Buff-banded Rail (Gallirallus philippensis) (1) Single bird near to the work
shed close to cafe.
Little Penguin (Eudyptula minor) (3) @ active nest found while assisting with
Penguin survey. Nest one with 2 chicks,nest two with sitting adult.
Masked Lapwing (Vanellus miles) (3) Adult with 2 chicks near work shed close to
cafe.

Location: Parnka Point, Coorong
Common Sandpiper (Actitis hypoleucos) (1) Flew to northern side of point, to
land on rocks near the edge of water. After several minutes flew around point
to the southern side.
Bird first seen by Faye Lush who was visiting Parnka Point at the same time.

Location: Rocky Gully Road near Monarto Zoo northern boundary
Black Kite (Milvus migrans) (4) We have often driven on Rocky Gully Road, about
10km from our Rockleigh property as the crow (raven ?) flies and 10km from
Murray Bridge, but have not seen black kites there before.

Rainbow Bee-eater (Merops ornatus) (2) The bee-eaters are back in our wooded
creekbed, after spending winter somewhere else. They kept themselves busy
catching insects and very occasionally calling.
White-winged Triller (Lalage tricolor) (1) The triller was another new species
for our property, #76. Can we dream of reaching 80 ? Or 100 ? A male was
calling repeatedly and found without too much difficulty, but it was a gloomy
day, birds were not easy to see, and we did not see a female.

Great Crested Grebe (Podiceps cristatus) (2) Two Great Crested Grebe fist seen
close to island in front of shacks, then moved out into lake about 300m off
boat ramp.
Cattle Egret (Bubulcus ibis) (18) A group of 18 birds flushed from trees on
island and later located in Snipe sanctuary. All showing buff heads of breeding
plumage; many also with buff backs.
