Keith & Lindsay,
I was told of a Great-billed Heron on Spring Creek below my house here in
Yungaburra in late August or early September 2008. I dismissed it as it was
said that the bird was out in the open wetland.
On the 16/09/08 I was out in the adjoining road reserve inspecting my trees
when I heard a guttural call. A Great-billed Heron was flying up the hill
from near the junction of Spring and Petersen Creeks near the Platypus
Viewing Platform. It flew over Nick's Restaurant before heading back down
the creek down stream of the road bridge. I went looking for it but could
not find it.

Hi Folks,
We have been told about three reliable sightings, over a period of three
years, of Great-billed Heron at Malanda on the Atherton Tableland at an
altitude of 700m. We can't find any records of this
species at altitude. Has anyone else seen or knows of records at this
altitude? More information is on our blog:

Cheers,
Keith & Lindsay.
