Tom & Allan,

Thanks for your input in so far.

Large-billed Scrubwren is certainly found in the area, although not usual at this particular site as it is higher up on a ridge on the understorey is quite grassy. They are common in the rainforest gullies a few hundred metres away though.

White-browed Scrubwren are common at the site, but that final trill is really what throws me and doesn't sound scrubwren-like to me.

Without seeing the bird I think our only hope is as you mentioned, someone who has heard & identified this call before.

Marc

Marc,
Interesting call, I've been hearing something similar in SE Qld and wonder if it's Large-billed Scrubwren (is that a possibility in your area?)

Hi all,

I discovered this call on a recording I made in early March this year in the Royal National Park, NSW.

Rose Robin's were in the area and heard soon after this call ( here is the Rose Robin call for comparison - http://xeno-canto.org/146119 ), so it could possibly be an atypical Rose Robin call. However, I've never heard anything like this one before.

Would be interested to hear your thoughts!

Regards

Marc Anderson
