Oriental Cuckoo
Parkview Crescent Park, Cornubia
BirdLife Brisbane South. 6 observers. Fine early, showers increasing as morning progressed.
Oriental Cuckoo (1) One hepatic bird seen well by all observers when we crossed the first bridge. Rufous blotched back, unbroken bars on chest, no white wing patch evident as would be for Immature Brush Cuckoo or Fan-tailed Cuckoo. Tail barred brown.

Cheetham Salt Works, Port Alma Road
Pair of birds located along the fence of the salt works. Sat on wire and allowed close observation for sometime. Possible that there were 3 birds in total but only 2 observed at any one period.

Nathan Road Wetlands Reserve, Kippa Ring
Male ,east of road. 7 species of raptors,including 2 Swamp Harriers, 3 White-bellied Sea Eagles, Wedge-tailed Eagle and Brown Falcon. Also c30 Glossy Ibis and 1 White-necked Heron.

Budgerigars at Samsonvale, west of Brisbane
Lake Samsonvale
Small group of 4 Budgerigars seen this morning and one photographed perched. Other birds of interest around the lake area were at least 3 Lewins Rails calling with one juvenile seen, large number of Red-kneed Dotterels. White-eared and Spectacled Monarchs and Topknot Pigeons.

Freckled Ducks (with PICS!)
Thomson River, Longreach
Update on the Freckled Duck flock on the Thomson River. Today counted about 25 birds in a section of the river around 1.2km upstream of the top weir.
Very photogenic, but you need to get wet and muddy.
Also one juvenile white-bellied sea eagle flying about keeping the birds on their toes.

Alerted to presence by Noisy Miners, 15 birds circling quite high above house. Large amount of cloud cover present.

Square-tailed Kite, Black Kite
Moggill
Left-hand side of Moggill Road heading toward Brisbane just after roundabout to Priors Pocket road. Square-tailed Kite flying quite close to treetops and amongst houses on side of road, being harassed by a single Black Kite and Noisy Miners.
